Loch na Larach lies in the low ground of Highland Scotland, roughly a kilometre from the coast. It is a small loch of about 14 hectares with moderate depth and alkalinity, the water carrying a simple, gently curved shoreline. The underlying geology contributes to water of moderate productivity.
The loch holds brown trout averaging six to eight ounces. Bank fishing is comfortable around the shoreline, and the fish are not overly particular about their diet.
The route follows a gentle track northeast for just over a kilometre, winding through the low moorland before reaching the southern shore of the loch.
