water managed by Durness and Kinlochbervie Angling Club
Sandwood Loch lies close to the Atlantic on the Cape Wrath Peninsula, north of Blairmore. It is the largest water in the area, just over a mile long and up to half a mile wide, covering roughly 97 hectares. The water is generally shallow, with an average depth of about five metres, and has moderate alkalinity. Set among low moor, less than half a kilometre from the coast, it has a simple outline with broad, open reaches.
Bank fishing only. Salmon and sea trout are present, and catches depend entirely on timing. Access is from Blairmore car park by the Sandwood Track; allow about 90 minutes. The path runs for roughly six kilometres over easy moorland with only gentle rises, reaching the east side of Sandwood Loch before continuing towards the shore.
Visitor permits are available for anglers who wish to fish the club’s waters without full membership. These permits offer access to well-maintained fishing grounds in a quiet, scenic setting and help support the ongoing conservation and management of the fishery.
Both experienced anglers and newcomers are welcome. By purchasing a permit, visitors are able to enjoy a day’s fishing while contributing to the care and sustainability of the waters.
