Water managed by Portree Angling Association
Loch Langaig lies very close to the coast in the low ground of northern Skye, less than a kilometre from the shore. It is a very small loch of roughly 3 hectares, nearly circular in outline, and sits at moderate depth for its size — the water is clear and productive, underlain by metamorphic rock and carrying moderate alkalinity. The fetch across it is short, sheltered from the worst of the Atlantic wind.
The loch is one of a group lying between the A855 and the dramatic escarpment of the Quiraing. Together they hold small but lively wild brown trout, and the fishing can be rewarding. Fly only is the rule, and a members-only boat is available. The lochs are well suited to introducing younger anglers to fly fishing, and the other waters in the group are within easy reach on foot.
Access is straightforward from the road, with a short walk south-west of roughly 300 metres descending gently to the loch shore.
