Water managed by Portree Angling Association
The Kilmartin River rises on the Trotternish Ridge and flows past the village of Malagar, working its way down the valley through a succession of holding pools before joining the sea at Staffin Bay. It is a spate river, dependent on rain to bring fish up from the tide, and given sufficient water it can fish well throughout its length.
Both salmon and sea trout are present, with the occasional salmon among the runs of sea trout. Fly, small spinner, and worm are all suitable methods, and all legal methods are permitted, a policy intended to encourage younger anglers. Access is good, with the Malagar road running alongside much of the river. Parking is available on the Malagar road itself, or in Stenscholl, and those fishing the lower beats will find a convenient lay-by beside the bridge on the single-track road leading to the slipway.
