Loch na Beinne Reidhe lies in the Highland hills some nine kilometres from the coast, set among open moorland at a middling altitude between glen floor and high ridge. It is a small loch of roughly 12 hectares, with a moderately irregular shoreline that forms several bays and points along its perimeter of just under two kilometres. Though the loch is broadly shallow, the water reaches a moderate depth of around seven metres in places. Low alkalinity is characteristic of this Highland terrain.
The loch holds brown trout of excellent average size, well-conditioned fish that will test the rod thoroughly.
Access is a serious undertaking and should not be attempted without a map, compass, and experience of hill navigation. The route begins on the A837 to the south and climbs steadily northward across open moor for around five kilometres, gaining some 600 metres in the process. The loch is one of four or five you can visit on this expedition, and the going is hard throughout. Fine weather and a full day should be allowed.
