Water managed by Assynt Angling Group
Loch Assynt lies a few kilometres from the sea at low elevation. The largest water in the area, it stretches for about 8 km and is up to 1.5 km wide, with a perimeter of roughly 35 km. The loch is deep, with a mean depth around 30 metres and moderate alkalinity. Its margin is varied, with many small bays and points, and the open reaches can be harsh in strong winds.
Bank and boat fishing are available. Brown trout, ferox, Arctic char, salmon and sea trout are present, with a large head of average-sized trout; larger fish are taken from time to time, including occasional double-figure fish. Access is easy, with straightforward approaches to the shore at several points along its length, but take care if boating in high winds.
