Loch Achmore is a favourite among local anglers. The trout average around 12 ounces and are of excellent quality. Larger trout, ranging from 1 to 2 pounds, are regularly caught, especially in the middle of the loch where there are submerged weed beds.
Boat fishing is popular, and it's recommended to navigate carefully to the main part of the loch, avoiding submerged obstacles.
The North Bay is a favourite drift, and if the wind is easterly, drifting from the boat moorings to the bay where the river flows into Loch Foid can be very productive. The loch is known to fish well in various wind conditions, except when the water becomes too turbid.
A variety of fly patterns, such as the Golden Olive Dabbler, Claret Dabbler, Clan Chief, Bibio, and Leggy Claret Bumble, are effective for catching trout. For bait fishing, using worms on the bottom is a productive method.
