Water managed by Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association
This is a large natural lake of around 70 acres in size. It holds abundant, free-rising wild brown trout, averaging about 8oz, although fish to 1lb and larger are sometimes caught.
Walking, often over rough and boggy ground, is the only way to get to the lake. It is about 1 hour from Teifi pools/Pontrhydfendigaid or 2 hours from the Claerwen reservoir in the Elan Valley.
The Molinia grass round this lake is waist high and forms tussocks which are incredibly hard to walk through. Avoid the temptation to walk straight to the Llyn when you see it. Follow the route provided carefully and stick to higher ground. It's best to approach from the Teifi pool and trying to walk on the higher ground that takes you to the north west shore.
The lake is very shallow in the marginal areas and can be waded safely. It is suited to classic ‘walk and cast’ style with traditional wet flies. In June, the lake has one of the best hatches of coch-y-bonddu beetles in Wales, which can bring hundreds of feeding fish to the surface.
