Water managed by Durness Limestone Lochs & River Fishing
Kyle of Durness is a sea loch at the far northwest tip of Scotland.
Sea trout are the principal quarry, with salmon rarely taken. Fish average around one and a half pounds, and around 50 are landed across the season. The loch fishes best in the two hours either side of low tide, particularly when the River Dionard is running low and fish hold in the loch rather than pushing upstream.
There’s about three miles of accessible north bank fishing, from the mouth of the river to the sea. South bank is also available but access is difficult.
Spinning brings the best results. Durness limestone gives the surrounding fields an unexpectedly lush character against a backdrop of mountains and tidal sand flats.
