water managed by Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association
This large natural lake of around 70 acres in size. It holds abundant, free-rising wild brown trout, averaging about 8oz, although fish to 1lb and larger are sometimes caught.
Walking, often over rough and boggy ground, is the only way to get to the lake. It is about 1 hour from Teifi pools/Pontrhydfendigaid or 2 hours from the Claerwen reservoir in the Elan Valley.
The lake is very shallow in the marginal areas and can be waded safely. It is suited to classic ‘walk and cast’ style with traditional wet flies. In June, the lake has one of the best hatches of coch-y-bonddu beetles in Wales, which can bring hundreds of feeding fish to the surface.
